At Rajah & Tann Asia, we have a bold vision of pioneering legal practice. A firm where tradition meets cutting-edge practice, we are forward thinking people who are passionate about driving innovation in the legal field.
We believe that, more than anything else, it’s this love of what we do that has enabled us to become one of Asia’s most dynamic and innovative law firms.
If you share our belief and ambitions, we welcome you to know us better.
About Us
Our search is never ending to find like-minded people with the same passion, pursuit of excellence, ethos and work ethic. Above all, people with our DNA, single mindedness and pride for a job well done in everything we do.
In return, we offer a work environment which is challenging, dynamic, collaborative, inclusive and founded on mutual respect and support for a healthy work life balance.
If these are values which are as important to you as it is to us, reach out to us at recruitment@rajahtann.com.
At Rajah & Tann, we firmly believe that our ‘old-fashioned’ values make us better lawyers; that qualities such as fairness, integrity, generosity and compassion are critical in giving the firm a competitive advantage.
Why? Because we are absolutely clear that the successful practice of law is all about building relationships based on trust – with clients, within the firm, and in the wider world.
For our clients, it’s all about dependability and loyalty. They know that when they come to Rajah & Tann with a challenging legal issue, they can depend on us to deliver what we promise; to provide balanced and honest advice; to play to win on their behalf, within the rules.
For our people, we’re committed to providing a warm, friendly and supportive environment, in which each individual has every possible opportunity to achieve his or her full potential; in which diversity is valued and open communication encouraged; and in which people’s right to a life outside work is respected.
As for the wider world, throughout the firm’s history, we have consistently worked to make a difference. Today, we provide our lawyers with the platform to serve society through pro bono and other corporate social responsibility initiatives we actively pursue and if you join us, we very much hope that, like most of our young lawyers, you’ll throw yourself energetically into our pro bono work.
Diversity & Inclusion – Rajah & Tann is committed to promoting equality and diversity in its policies, practices and procedures and in those areas in which it has influence. This applies to the firm’s dealings with our clients, our people and the wider world. No individual in the firm will be made to feel that they are being placed at a substantial disadvantage.
If you’re the kind of person we are looking for, we know you’ll probably have other options to consider. So we’d like to focus a bit more closely on the reasons why, whatever offers you may receive, Rajah & Tann is the right place to build a brilliantly successful career.
We’d say there are a few main factors which, in combination, give us the edge.

Life @ Rajah & Tann
Life @ R&T
Born and raised in Myanmar, Khine Khine Zin joined Rajah & Tann as an intern with a love for puzzles. She puts her problem-solving skills to the test as she unpacks complex legal matters. Today, Khine is a Senior Associate in both our Corporate Commercial and Myanmar Practices. She continues to view challenges that come her way as means to learn and explore. Find out more about the rhythm of her life, both in and outside of work.
In the fast-paced world of Banking & Finance, one must be commercially aware and maintain a good understanding of the continually evolving global markets. Now a Senior Associate in Banking & Finance, Rachel Leong represents both lenders and borrowers in a wide range of complex transactions, keeping her meticulous and sharp due to the continuously challenging nature of the work.
Although work is a big part of her life, Rachel still finds time to be part of the Associates’ Management and Mental Wellness Committees, and has even participated in the KL Bar Run, a run amongst law firms in Malaysia, together with colleagues from Rajah & Tann Asia’s Malaysia office.
Get to know Rachel and how she spends her time, both in and outside of work.
I am a partner with the arbitration and construction team. I joined the firm in 2016, after a stint with the Courts, and have faithfully stayed the course since.
My early years saw me serve on the Associates’ Management Committee (AMC), an elected body representing the associates’ interests. A one year stint turned to three.
Hindsight tells me the time flew by. And through it, I bonded meaningfully not within the AMC team, but also with fellow associates in other departments. It was also a chance to exercise leadership at an early stage. I also continued long-distance running, a love I thought, with trepidation, I would have to give up when I started work.
Hindsight (again) cautions against worrying too much. I run on an almost daily basis now (one day of rest per week due to old age) and compete in marathons.
I have raced with R&T as well – we are reigning (and defending) champions at the Law Society Cross Country.
Never a dull moment.Devathas Satianathan

The open culture of the firm has also allowed me to reach out to my peers and seniors with ease to clarify any doubts I may have, and this which has greatly facilitated my learning and professional development as a budding lawyer.
To law school juniors, take your time to learn about to learn more about the specific practice areas you are interested in, apart from those taught in law school! It would be helpful to showcase such interest and relevant understanding in your application and interview process, which would also guide you in better identifying the right practice group for you.
